Before Your Surgery

Long-Term Considerations

Permanent Sterilization: Laparoscopic bilateral salpingectomy is a permanent form of birth control. Once the fallopian tubes are removed, pregnancy is not possible through natural means. However, pregnancy may still be possible through in-vitro fertilization (IVF) since the ovaries and uterus are left intact. If you desire future pregnancy through IVF, consult your doctor before the procedure.

Menstrual Changes: Removing the fallopian tubes does not affect your hormones or menstrual cycles. You will continue to have periods unless your uterus or ovaries are removed.
